The
Hoagland Family has been in business since 1891 and owns various
agricultural holdings in several states. J & N Ranch was established
by Joe and Norma Hoagland in 1978 to produce registered cattle. The
ranch is located along the Missouri River, just north of Kansas City
in Leavenworth County, Kansas. The family also owns the Gunbarrel
Ranch in Eskridge, Kansas, and the F. Morgan feed yard. Joe Hoagland
was the Director of International Activities for the American Hereford
Association in 1985. The Ranch began operations raising Herefords
and owned RB L1 Domino 970, sire of back-to-back National Champion
bulls in the early 1980’s.
In 1992, a registered Angus herd was added and in 1997 the ranch
purchased the American Black Hereford Association and the majority
of the foundation cow herd used to create the Black Hereford
breed from the estate of John Gage of Eudora, Kansas. Shortly after
2000, the ranch dispersed their Hereford and Angus cowherds to
concentrate solely on raising Black Herefords. Currently the ranch
runs about 180 Black Hereford cows and has a Production Sale on
the 2nd Saturday in February each year. |
